Having already released seven games in the last 25 years, Soulcalibur is obviously one of the few awesome series in this genre. With the most recent installment being the first to hit PC, the community has been quick to take to modding for custom content. Since modding is relatively new in Soul Calibur, there isn’t much out there at the moment – but here are some of my favorites so far.
10. PS4 Buttons
Check Out This Mod As the first Soulcalibur game made available on PC, this mod is sure to come in handy. If you’re anything like me, you almost always encounter this problem while playing on PC. Games don’t typically come with support for PS4 controllers. So you’re forced to either use the keyboard, or get used to the default Xbox controller icons. Personally, this is one of the first things I look for when I’m playing with a controller – so it’s best to just get something like this installed if you like the PS controls.
9. City Ruins – A Beautiful Song
Check Out This Mod One of the coolest features of Soulcalibur is your ability to fight as characters from other popular video games. With the lovable 2B being a playable character in SC6, it’s only fitting that she would have her own level based on NieR: Automata. With a modified version of the City Ruins available in the game, a community member took it a step further and brought in the music from NieR to match. You’ll now have A Beautiful Song from NieR: Automata playing in the background whenever City Ruins is the designated arena for your fight. A small, yet welcome change.
8. Kaer Morhen BGM – Widow Maker
Check Out This Mod Of course, any mention of special playable characters in SC6 has to include Geralt of Rivia. Soulcalibur fans basically freaked when it was announced that our favorite witcher would be available in SC6 too. He comes with a custom arena as well, in the form of the old witcher’s training grounds, Kaer Morhen. The game states that it’s only a replica version that is loosely based on the original, but why not make it feel as close to the original as possible? With this mod you can do just that, replacing the Kaer Morhen background music with Widow Maker from the original Witcher 3 soundtrack.
7. God of War 3 Kratos Mod
Check Out This Mod Another unique feature of Soulcalibur games is the character creation option. It isn’t common in fighting games, which makes it one of the reasons Soulcalibur can separate itself from the pack. The CaS option made it possible for modders to create completely custom item sets, eventually making it possible to add even more special characters to the game. This particular mod brings Kratos from the God of War series to SC6, complete with the Blades of Fury and everything we love about this bad boy. It isn’t a recreation of the most recent Kratos look from God of War 2018, but that doesn’t make fighting as the Ghost of Sparta any less cool.
6. Wonder Woman Item+Weapon Set
Check Out This Mod When it comes to custom CaS skins for SC6, modder monkeygigabuster makes some of the best looking sets out there. His mods take up a few slots on this list, starting with Wonder Woman. The set comes with five pieces, including Wonder Woman’s headband, armor, bracelets, boots, sword and shield. All you’ll have to do is pick the most suitable long black hair option and facial features to match, and you’ve got a playable Wonder Woman in SC6.
5. Batman Item Set
Check Out This Mod Now that you have Wonder Woman in-game, why not get Batman into the mix as well? You might be wondering why this particular Batman skin has a different look. Well for those who aren’t familiar with the fantasy MMORPG Lineage 2: Revolution, Batman was actually made a special character there as well. This particular Batman look was the basis for monkeygigabuster’s SC6 version, which explains the fantasy-style armor. This mod set comes with a total of nine custom items including the helmet, cuirass, and belt. As an added feature, Batman fights using Ra’s al Ghul’s sword, which is a pretty cool feature if you ask me.
4. White Ranger Item Set
Check Out This Mod Last of the monkeygigabuster skins is this White Ranger set. The preview photo and the gameplay footage on YouTube was enough to impress me out the door, as the quality on these textures is amazing. The Tommy Oliver White Ranger was easily a favorite Power Ranger for most fans. And this set really brings him to life in SC6. The set even includes the signature White Ranger sword.
3. Buster Sword (Siegfried Style)
Check Out This Mod Some modders took the CaS in a different direction. Instead of creating completely new characters, modder Thomakaze chose to add his favorite video game weapons to the game instead. First of which is the iconic Buster Sword, an icon for Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7. The giant sword has become so easily recognizable that it’s basically symbolic with video games as a whole. Definitely something you’re going enjoy in SC6.
2. Master Sword (Mitsurugi Style)
Check Out This Mod Another iconic sword here, this time from the Nintendo universe. The Master Sword from the Legend of Zelda series can now be used by Mitsurugi in SC6. The level of detail that Thomakaze puts into these mods isn’t something to be glossed over, as both skins come complete with weapon compendium descriptions explaining the weapons’ origins. Now that’s thorough.
1. Libra of Soul Mode At Higher Difficulty
Check Out This Mod Another simple yet lovely mod for the hardcore Soulcalibur players out there. Fighting game campaigns aren’t exactly known for their expansive storylines. So you likely finished playing through the Libra of Soul mode in no time. Well, this mod adds some extra challenge for an interesting new playthrough – giving you three difficulty options for the Libra of Soul mode. You can play through the story in Easy, Harder, or Very Hard mode – so if you feel you’ve gotten pretty good at the game, check this out and see if you’re up for the challenge.
