And Kassadin is the Jeff Bezos of jumping around. But what’s the point of all that mobility if you don’t look cool while doing it? Well skins are here to help, so we’re taking a look at all of his cosmetics to see how we can make him look his best.
8. Deep One Kassadin
Released: August 1st, 2010 Price: 520 RP This is one of those old skins that just foretold the coming of chromas. I literally had to pull up both character models to even see the difference between this skin and the base Kassadin we’re all used to. It boils down to this: Deep One is a lot more green compared to the base purple/blue, and he has one pair of spikes more on his shoulders (and they look slightly different). Also the design on his skirt is more vine-like than usual. That’s about it. The splash art is rather bad too here, and also the name sounds like it was created from a random name generator… and yeah the skin is just bad.
7. Harbinger Kassadin
Released: July 13th, 2011 Price: 975 RP Although I think this is one of the cooler-looking old skins, the fact that it costs 975 RP is just absurd. Because don’t get it twisted, this skin only affects your character model. And even then it does surprisingly little. You just get some color swaps so the skin is a bit darker overall, with the exception of your skin which is now a light green, and you get a few more spikes. I do like the splash art though. It looks quite menacing. But I honestly can’t say that the character model lives up to the hype, especially for such a high price point.
6. Festival Kassadin
Released: February 12th, 2010 Price: 520 RP Yet another skin with another character model change. At least this one has a concise theme and charges a normal amount. The whole appeal of Festival Kassadin is that you get a lot of brighter colors, with most of your armor being green, and bright blue ice spikes being perched on your head and shoulders. The antler-like ice spikes are a lot more pronounced than the usual horns too – so at least it has somewhat of a distinct silhouette. The splash art is decent, but this skin could have been a lot better if it had some new visual effects, like a snowball Q or something. At least it’s quite rare, so you get some uniqueness points for this one.
5. Pre-Void Kassadin
Released: September 26th, 2010 Price: 520 RP And with this we’ve reached our final old skin in the ranking, and it’s Pre-Void Kassadin. Finally, a skin that at least has a somewhat unique and interesting idea. That being said, the idea’s execution isn’t exactly perfect. As you could imagine, the character model is completely human, with the usual tubes being replaced by a scarf, and your outfit looking a lot more leathery than usual. You even get to let your hair down! However, since this is an older skin, you still get your usual Void blade, your alien voice, and your usual Riftwalk. Not to be that guy, but that kind of defeats the entire purpose of making Kassadin human. If this skin ever gets a visual update, I’m sure it could be a rather reasonable pick. But for now it’s more of a good idea than anything else.
4. Count Kassadin
Released: October 24th, 2019 Price: 1350 RP The rest of Kassadin’s skins are leagues above everything that came before them, as they finally bring a level of polish to this old champion. Count Kassadin starts us here, and he makes all your wildest Dracula fantasies come true – by making you a true vampire. Bat particles are basically everywhere, your E is even just a swarm of bats you throw at people, your Q is this creepy green eye, and your blade seems to be alive at this point, glowing menacingly when you activate your W. I also have to give praise to your backing animation, as you just hop into a coffin like it was nobody’s business. Overall, this skin has a lot of charm. And everything that it set out to do, it did it well. The animations are all well-polished, the character model finally makes me realize why people are into vampires so much, and the splash art is just epic. There are even really unique chromas to choose from, making this skin a really strong contender for the best Kassadin skin.
3. Hextech Kassadin
Released: October 15th, 2020 Price: 10 Gemstones It’s no secret that I hate Hextech skins. I find that they charge way too much for what they’re offering. However, Hextech Kassadin might just be the golden exception. It just has such a strong space cop aesthetic that I’m rather taken aback. You legitimately look like a character that could appear in Arcane, and that’s the biggest praise I can give a character model. I also love how your powers are not fueled strictly through technology, with there even being a special cocking animation for your blade when you use your W. The Q and E animations are also very clean here, and your backing animation has you wipe the floor with someone who looks an awful lot like Nocturne. The only gripe I have with this skin is that your ult feels a bit too telegraphed, so it’s easier to dodge. Nevertheless, for a Hextech skin I am truly blown away.
2. Shockblade Kassadin
Released: February 17th, 2022 Price: 1350 RP This skin could’ve easily been in the number one spot. In fact, I’d say that Shockblade Kassadin and my actual number one pick or basically identical when it comes to quality. First off, let’s just acknowledge how cool that splash art is. And then let’s give applause to the team for making the character model live up to that hype. Blue and white suit Kassadin perfectly and the ninja aesthetic goes a long way to make you feel like a badass. Not to mention the various chromas that let you play ninja Power Rangers. When it comes to the new particles and animations – everything is centered around electricity. Shocking, I know. And I have to say that this skin sports one of the coolest looking W animations out there. I was slightly confused by the little card particles present after you hit your Q, but I guess it makes sense with the overall theme. There isn’t anything about this skin that I could really call bad. The choice between it and the following skin was basically a coin flip. So I suggest you take a good look at both of them and decide for yourselves!
1. Cosmic Reaver Kassadin
Released: October 14th, 2015 Price: 1350 RP Even though this is the oldest skin out of the top contenders, it still stands undisputed as the very best. That’s because it just takes Kassadin’s original champion fantasy and makes it a lot better. You just feel like this omnipotent being that has seen the darkness of the universe, and is here to straighten things out, teleporting through space and harnessing your astral energy. So yeah, the character model is literally perfect – and probably won’t be outdone for years to come. All of the particles are also quite fitting, throwing in star-like sparkles here and there to really make your abilities seem powerful and impactful. But it’s also important to point out that they aren’t too flashy, which actually works in Kassadin’s favor since he never struck me as a guns blazing type of dude. Overall, there’s a reason why most Kassadin mains rock this skin. Note: this content was created under Riot Games’ “Legal Jibber Jabber” policy using assets owned by Riot Games.
